Academy of READING selected as the Best Reading Software for Second Consecutive Time

eSchool News Readers' vote Academy of READING has “the biggest impact in schools”

October 1 , 2006

Ottawa, CANADA - October 1, 2006 AutoSkill International Inc today announced that its flagship intervention solution, Academy of READING®, was voted the clear, overall winner in each category of the eSchool News Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Reading Software. This is the second consecutive time that Academy of READING swept first place in this Awards program.

To help determine which software products are having the biggest impact in schools, eSchool News ―a monthly industry newspaper for K-20 decision-makers ― launched the Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Reading Software. Conducted online in August 2006, an informal survey asked readers to choose their favorite products in five areas: phonics and phonemic awareness, vocabulary, reading comprehension, fluency, and English as a Second Language (ESL). Nearly 900 readers responded to the poll, which closed September 1, and the Academy of READING finished at the top of every category.

“This is the third time we’ve run this Awards program to determine the Best Reading Software, so winning first place in every category twice in a row is really a powerful statement for the Academy of READING,” said Gregg Downey, publisher of eSchool News. “Our editorial team received comments from readers, and Academy of READING users are as enthusiastic as they are dedicated. Congratulations to AutoSkill!”

The Academy of READING rapidly builds foundation skills in five core areas defined by the National Reading Panel. Using a unique, research-based methodology, the software delivers individualized training for each struggling student. It can be implemented across districts to help a broad range of students, including at-risk, English language learners, special education, and learning disabled students.

”When we got the call from eSchool News about taking first place for the second year in a row, well, the energy and excitement from our team was palpable,” said Michele Thistle, director of marketing at AutoSkill. “Thank you to eSchool News for building an Awards program that gives educators a voice. Our customers are obviously sending a clear message about the Academy of READING and we are going to continue to deliver on their promise.”
