AutoSkill targets mid-large sized districts with Academy of MATH®

Supplements Math curriculum with a systematic approach to skill mastery

May 2, 2005

Ottawa, Ontario -- May 2, 2005 -- AutoSkill International Inc. today launched the next generation of its Academy of MATH literacy intervention software to help struggling students in elementary, middle and high school to develop core mathematical skills. Now browser-based, the Academy of MATH is designed to easily scale to the user communities in mid-large sized districts.

“Our research-based Academy of MATH product is delivering gains on average of 2.1 grade levels in approximately 10 hours of time on task for some of our early customers,” said Steve Judges, VP Product Development at AutoSkill. “AutoSkill is delivering literacy solutions that clearly demonstrate permanent gains that map to AYP scores. The depth and breadth of our Academy of MATH product is captured in what we believe is the most comprehensive reporting functionality on the market.”

Academy of MATH helps students achieve mathematical proficiency using a systematic approach towards building and mastering skills including conceptual understanding, computational fluency and strategic competence across recognized mathematical skill areas. The program features 42 training programs across eight levels of content with each level featuring 10 subject strands. The levels and skills are aligned to NCTM standards and the skills progress through three stages of complexity to ensure mastery of the subject area content, including terms, operations and word problems. The Academy of MATH uses automated interventions to dynamically build and adjust these training programs to meet individual needs of at-risk students of all ages and abilities.

“We are building on the huge success of the Academy of READING product in this generation of Academy of MATH,” continued Judges. “Our browser-based products have a training methodology that efficiently moves students through the program so teachers can spend more time teaching; the motivational aspects of the program are age-appropriate which keeps students engaged in time on task that results in grade level gains; and the management interface gives administrators and teachers hands-on tools to track school and classroom progress, and even to monitor their investment.”

New features of Academy of MATH include:

  • Automated Intervention: allowing teachers to focus on data-driven instruction
  • A comprehensive Read-Aloud option
  • Reporting: automatically tracks performance level improvements for the school, classroom and individual student using levels defined by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
  • Systematic approach to skills mastery:
    • Prescribe, Monitor and Intervene approach to ITP customization
    • Tutorial, Practice and Train methodology for skills development
